There's a special place in Seoul known as the Inception Town. It's named after the scene in which you see the city fold over itself, and with a bit of lens compression you can recreate this with photography.
Inception Town Seoul Location
The location is in Seongnam, and can be found by wandering around the area between Gachon University Station and Taepyeong Station. There are multiple narrow alleys and plenty of different views you can get of the surrounding steep streets to get great shots.
How to get the Inception Shot - lens compression
If you have access to a telephoto, 85mm or above, you can achieve something called lens compression, and it's perfect for getting shots like these. Lens compression makes the background appear closer to the subject, and gives the effect of making it appear larger relative to the foreground. So when you wish to show perspective and create a dramatic image, lens compression is something to try out. Here's how to do it:
Positioning Subject: You'll need to be a moderate distance away from your subject with the background a moderate distance away from them.
Longer Focal Length: If you're using a telephoto lens, ensure you are at full zoom. If you're using a prime 85mm and above will also work well.
Aperture Settings: Your aperture doesn't necessarily effect lens compression, but it will help to use a narrower aperture (higher f-number) to add more detail into the background and make it more noticeable.
So if you're heading to the Inception Town, make sure you have a lens with a longer focal length to get that sweet compression and to enhance the Inception effect.
